The Tactical High Energy Laser

This is a new kind of technology i'm presenting to you today, defence based technology news:) ... hopefully more reviews of this kind will follow!

The Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) program is a joint program launched by of U.S. and to counter short-range rockets. This defensive weapon though still in developmental stages, will be inducted in Israeli and American armies. Its predecessor Nautilus was first used in 1996.

THEL will have a mobile version as well. It will be called MTEL. THEL is currently being tested in New Mexico.The laser could be in use by 2007. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on this project.

The MTHEL will be designed to minimize the threats by mortars, artillery rounds and rocket. It might even be capable of destroying cruise missile. Israel and America wants it to be mounted on the back of a humvee. It can be moved and deployed as a system on three trucks. Since this system gets hot quickly, so a new cooling system will be incorporated. It also has fire control radar that guides it into action as shown in the picture.

The New BMW M3

Presenting to you the ultimate in motor sporting this time. This was the first ever sedan car to introduce the idea of a powerful engine in a family 4 door saloon and as awkward it would have sounded 15 years back, it still managed to make ripples across the planet. I'm talking about the BMW M3, and this time it comes out with a newer model with a much more tweaked engine and much more elegant looks.

I must say i love this introductory color, although not as much as we all love this car:)

Engine And Performance:

There's more to it This is the first time an M3 won't feature a straight 6 and also another first time .. it'll feature a V8! Infact a 4 litre V8 which produces a massive 420 hp, capable of upto 8,400 rpm. I cant even imagine the sound this V8 will produce at this rpm i'd say i'm waiting eagerly to hear it! And there is more to it acceleration to 100 km/h comes in just 4.8 seconds, and the car continues this mind-boggling performance with fascinating consistency all the way to its top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph, where the engine electronics set an artificial limit to the ongoing power and performance of the new BMW M3.

This new car promises more fun and excitement which is very much highlighted by the car's character and expressions.The Over and above the engine compartment lid with its striking power dome and the two air intake openings, the function-oriented design of the front and rear air dams, the so-called gills in the front side panels, the side-sills also in distinctive design, the roof made of clearly visible carbon fiber, as well as the exterior mirrors and light-alloy wheels in BMW M design clearly characterize the new model from the ground up. The exterior, in turn, through its athletic and aesthetic appearance, powerfully underlines the sporting qualities of the car.

This M3 comes with bundles of technology, but the base is still the same the very difficult to use on board computer. I hope that they've done something to give it a much friendly touch, in all we're very much looking forward to the unleashing of this beast! Price figure's havn't been released as yet but it'll be significantly more that the straight 6 version because this car give a better package in all !

Intel speeds up the fibers for computers

Researchers at Intel are showing off an silicon modulator that can pass 40 gigabits of data in a second, a new record that indicates that fiber-inside-computers is really coming. For the past several years, Intel, Primarion, IBM and others have been coming up with ways to mass produce optical components on standard silicon manufacturing lines. There have been prototypes for modulators, lasers, and other parts.

A modulator is an component from the fiber optic industry. It essentially chops up light from a laser into blips that ultimately will be understood as 1s and 0s by a computer. Right now, computers (and chips) pass signals via electrons traveling along metal wires. Metal wires give off heat, which has created an energy crisis inside computer. Fiber optics however transmit data with photons, which are faster than electrons and don't give off heat.

So we finally might be coming near to what we can call the next generation computers !

Air guitarists’ rock dreams come true

Remember all the times you've heard a great guitar solo being played and you wished you could play like that. And you'd even try to an imaginary guitar in your hands and imagined the tune being played in your hear. Well now there's a solution to it, it might actually work! I present to you the Air Guitar.

Aspiring guitarists can make their own guitar solos - without ever having to pick up a real instrument, thanks to a research by some Finnish computer science students.The Virtual Air Guitar project has been developed at the Helsinki University of Technology. It adds genuine electric guitar sounds to the passionately played air guitar.It uses a computer to monitor the hand movements of a "player"; the system adds riffs and licks to match frantic mid-air finger work.

By responding instantly to a wide variety of gestures, it helps even the least experienced air guitarist to be the next slash.The resulting system consists of a video camera and a computer hooked up to an appropriately loud set of speakers. A player then needs only to wear a pair of brightly colored gloves in order to start. Computer vision software automatically keeps track of their hands and detects different movements. The Finnish team created a library of guitar sounds based around the pentatonic minor scale – a progression normally used for rock guitar solos – in order to create the right sound for their virtual instrument.

As a player moves their left hand along the neck of their virtual guitar, the computer will run through the scale. Holding it one place while strumming frenetically produces fret board tricks such as hammer-ons – where slapping a finger onto an already vibrating string produces a higher note – and blues bends, which give a distinctive rock twang. And a floor pedal can also be used to switch the system into mode that plays several different chords. However, it requires a little work. The project is currently being demonstrated at the Heureka Science Centre in Finland where it has been played more than 5000 times over the last month. As a follow-up, the researchers are working on a version that will be compatible with a normal webcam and computer, thus giving wannabe rock stars the opportunity to practice their art in the solitude of their bedroom.

This is my first post ever to have 5 pictures and there is a reason behind that i couldn't think which one of these should i drop out! This car is way more sexy than i ever imagined a car could get. This is the Cayman S Porsche design Edition 1, a limited edition of the mid engined coupe Cayman. This new car is set to be released in Nov, 2007.

The Looks This master piece has come into production with thanks to Porsche Design, it imparts additional Luxury and class on the Cayman S. The black leather inside is redefined to match the instrument dials. Even the center console, dashboard, and door trims glisten in black, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara.

BlackBerry Curve (BlackBerry 8300)

The New RIM BlackBerry Curve boasts of a sexy and slim design with an improved full QWERTY keyboard. This phone also has a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a media player. There's a new spell-checker for e-mail and memos, and audio technology that automatically adjusts call volume in noisy environments.

Although this smart phone doesn't have Wi-Fi or 3G support, it still offers a best-of-breed and sleek design and a well-rounded set of features which make the phone an attractive device for consumers and mobile professionals alike.

Unfortunately however, the BlackBerry Curve doesn't Wi-Fi or 3G support. Also noticeable is that the device's camera still doesn't have video-recording capabilities, and call quality sounds a bit hollow. The 8300 is equipped with a microSD slot, but it is not very conveniently located. The RIM BlackBerry Curve ships with a travel charger, a USB cable, a wired stereo headset and a belt holster.

This device costs around $400.

Fujitsu's Flash Based LifeBooks

Fujitsu have shifted to Flash Memory for their latest LifeBooks, the reason being that they are more accessible and durable. The Fujitsu LifeBook B6210 comes with a 16GB or 32GB drive made of flash memory. A flash drive is more durable than a traditional hard drive. You could drop your notebook and at least the flash drive would continue working.

Flash-based tablet PCs constitute a small piece of a niche market, but the two technologies marry well. Flash memory drives hold far less data than regular hard drives, but consume less power.

The downside however is that that flash drives hold a lot less than traditional drives. But the smaller capacity may not be such a problem in tablets, according to Fujitsu.

Nintendo Wii

After trailing the gaming race for two generations with "me too" consoles, Nintendo is taking a much different approach with its new system. The Nintendo Wii--formerly known as the Revolution--makes use of special motion-sensitive controllers that allow you to swing a sword, throw a punch, or drive a car with a flick of the wrist rather than with the push of a button.

Revolutionary controller design offers unique motion-sensitive gameplay options; built-in Wi-Fi delivers free online services and (eventually) gameplay; Virtual Console has major nostalgia appeal; compatible with all GameCube games and controllers; built-in SD slot for storage and photo viewing; includes Wii Sports game; most affordable of all next-gen systems.

The Bottom line being it lacks the graphical prowess and rich media features of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but the Nintendo Wii's combination of unique motion-sensitive controllers and emphasis on fun gameplay make the ultra-affordable console hard to resist. At about $250, the Wii also costs considerably less than the Microsoft Xbox 360 or the Sony PlayStation 3.

Range Rover 2008

Range Rover has always been a hot favourite, its more like a dream come true when it comes to motoring, you get all the power you want, you get amazing looking, extra ordinary driving comfort and complete off road experience! That is what you call a complete car!

Rover's have been around for quite some time now, and consequent models have been coming up with more and more features. This time it is the 2008 model, the shape is the same and it looks just as good. The real difference is in what lies within.

Engine And Performance:

Another first one for this 4x4 is a Turbo Diesel V8 engine, which offers petrol like performance but offers 32% more fuel economy as compared to the petrol V8. This has not only helped in increasing the sales upto 19% but also created a good image of diesel engine's capabilities.

New Features:

The list of changes for 2008 is headed by the introduction of four-zone air conditioning, which enables rear seat passengers to control their individual heating and ventilation. This is neatly complemented with 'climate control' windscreen and side glass which is now available in conjunction with automatic rain and headlight sensing. The special glass cuts infrared heat transmission into the vehicle, reducing heat build up when the vehicle is parked in the sun, for example, so allowing the air conditioning to function faster and more effectively on drive away.

The attention to detail extends to new tread-plates and revised graphics on the touch-screen and instruments. A new interior colour becomes available, called Storm, as well as two new exterior colours, Alaska White and Lucerne Green. There is also a new, highly polished 20" alloy wheel design.

For now this particular model doesn't carry a price tag, but it'll be more or less the same as before:)

Intel's Classmate PC

My previous attempt at doing a review on a cheap laptop created quite a lot of hype, so i decided to bring into consideration another one. This time it is the Intel Classmate PC, this particular PC isn't for professional use, this is Intel's attempt at making a PC for the Children in the under developed world.

The Classmate starts at $225, at a comfortable price of $350 you can get it preloaded with Windows Xp and Microsoft Office 2003.

The Classmate PC is available with either Linux or Windows XP, 256MB or 512MB of RAM, and either a 1GB or 2GB SSD hard drive. The 7-inch screen has a native resolution of 800x480, and the system includes headphone and mic jacks, speakers, two USB ports, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and an Ethernet jack. With a 900MhZ ultralow-voltage Celeron processor, Intel says it should run for about three hours per charge.

For the processing speed of this kind, the laptop has been stated to run quite comfortably on Windows XP. Surfing online isn't much of a problem either, the only thing which might be of some concern is that it does slow down when multi-tasking.

Subaru WRC Concept

Bugatti have revolutionized the car industry with a master piece before, the Bugatti Veyron. Now they are all set up to do it again, this time with the Bugatti ED 218. This new concept car is based on the previous EB 118. The outcome is amazing power and elegance and a very unique design.

Engine:

As is said, this car will revolutionize the car industry, this time not with extraordinary speed but an exquisite engine. This car will feature an 18 cylinder engine, this engine, which was developed at Volkswagen, has three rows of six-cylinder banks which are joined in the shape of a "W". A total displacement of 6.3 litres, this engine will put put 555 bhp and a maximum of 650 Nm. This engine will be a very first and one of a kind.

The harmonious lines of the body are continued in the comfortable and elegant interior. The instruments are oval in shape and the intruments panel is framed in the finest leather. The interior is further enhanced through the use of light walnut. The special silk-finish leather is in "biscuit" colour.

Permanent four-wheel drive and an aluminum multi-link suspension lend the Bugatti EB 218 impressive driving dynamics and excellent traction. The powerful and sporty appearance of the vehicle is underlined by the wide track and the long wheelbase with short body overhang. The Bugatti design can also be seen in the harmonious wheels made from shining magnesium.

We are early awaiting this car's release, and we are even more anxious because we know Bugatti can do it. Lets see how much time it takes them.

The Cheapest Laptop in the World

The Medison Celebrity laptop. It's a $150 laptop from Swedish company Medison that's available through the Columbus, Ohio-based online reseller 2Checkout.com. This laptop costs and amazing $150 !

This laptop features a large, wide-screen 14-inch WXGA display and weighs a reasonable 4.8 pounds. Powering the Medison Celebrity is a 1.5GHz Intel Celeron M 370 processor and 256MB of RAM. It uses Fedora Linux, which requires less muscle to run than a Windows OS and no Microsoft licensing fee. Rounding out the specs are a 40GB hard drive, an integrated Via PN800 graphics chip, and 802.11g Wi-Fi. You also get stereo speakers, three USB 2.0 ports, and a PC Card slot. Medison backs the laptop with a one-year warranty but offers little detail about the terms.

And guess what, $150 is all you have to pay, the shipping is also free and there are no extra charges whatsoever!

Peugeot 308 Rc Z Concept

The 308 RC Z concept car is a new Peugeot interpretation of driving pleasure. The car is a 2+2 coupé, with true versatility and at the same time a style that is modern, original and well-balanced.

Attention initially focused on making the vehicle as light as possible by the use of numerous aluminium components, for example the two roll over protection bars that separate the passenger compartment and give shape to the exterior styling, and the use of a polycarbonate rear windscreen and a large number of carbon fibre body parts.

This car may also look hideous from some angles but it is a bold step forward, lets see if they put it in production and if they do lets see how much does the original car resembles the concept model.

Perhaps the laptop we've been most looking forward to checking out this year, Toshiba's Portege R500 is very close to the final word in ultraportable systems. Incredibly thin and light, it manages to squeeze a 12-inch display into a package even lighter than Sony's 11-inch VAIO TZ150.

This laptop costs around $2000 for the base model and $2150 for the upgraded version.

Toshiba's much-anticipated Portege R500 may be the best ultraportable laptop available right now. This is an extremely thin and light has excellent battery life and even includes optical drive. This machine has a weight badge of 2.4 pounds! Which is much greater than extraordinary. The laptop also has a 120 GB hard drive, a 1.2 GHz Intel core 2 duo processor and Mobile Intel Express 950GM video card.

The only thing this laptop lacks is no mobile broadband and that very limited configuration options.

This car has been around for quite a while in different shapes, its a very fine blend of all the luxury and racing features of mercedes benz. This car is vaguely based on the CLK 55 Amg, the aim was to make an all-arounder that evokes the spirit of the racing CLK that won the 2003 DTM (German Touring Car Masters) racing series. On the other hand, the sad part is that only 100 of these imaculate cars will be made which have been already sold out.

Looks and Interior:

The car certainly looks apart with its deep front spoiler and 19" front and 20" back tyres, which have low profile dunlop tyres on them. The idea of bigger real wheels is quite a tradition with rear wheel drive car sports cars. The side scoops really give the car a sleeky devilish look. Not only that but the car sounds really amazing too.

Mercedes are normally let down by their handling but this one handles near perfection, all thanks to the awesomely balances chasis. The newly reprogrammed stability system allows for plenty of fun but saves you from expensive encounters with trees or guardrails. The brakes, too, are magnificent, and reviews say that DTM is as involving on the road as it is on the track.

Germany's biggest and best-known luxury/exotic car tuners, Hamann, now gives the M6 Edition Race. This car already a master piece has been redefined and given a new outlook and sport style by Hamann. The aerodynamics have been improved, carbon fibre panels added in addition to the factory fitted fibre glass roof panel, and the engine has been given a finer tuning to make the car fasterr and better!

Engine And Performance:

Hamann is offerring its customers three configurations of the same engine. The engine is high revving 5-litre V10 with 507 bhp and 520 Nm which is limited to 250km/h as standard. The age of concept cars now brings us the Ferrari Dino Concept , although this car might look like Ford's GT 40 from the side but it does have some distinguishing features of a Ferrari. That is what makes it stand apart from the others.

The goal was to create a car that feels stylish, modern, dynamic and organic while staying true to the original design language of the Ferrari Dino and Ferrari brand in general. It has managed to keep up to the expectations but a little alteration is recommended before the orignal car is made, because Ferrari stands for orignality which frankly this car doesnt fulfill.

BMW have now come up with a unique and as innovative as ever ideas for the next generation of super cars and this concept car sums them all up. Its called the Concept CS.

BMW say that the car will incorporate a pleasurable driving experience combined with ultimate power for highest speeds. The idea of a four door saloon being able to go up to amazing speeds was first introduced by BMW with M5 and M3. Now they are taking this idea a step further by launching this concept car.
BMW will be seriously looking at people's response to this rather awkwardly and interesting dashingly designed future concept super car. This car promises the luxury experience of a lifetime for all its passengers, the four seats will be made as such to make sure all the passengers enjoy the same level of pleasurable driving.

This car is amuzing to look at and conveys what future cars have in store for us. BMW also promise a new headlight system for this car, they have reflection LED's in their minds.

2007 9ff Porsche Turbo TRC 91

Just when the standard twin turbo charged Porsche 911 wasnt enough, 9ff took it for a spin and decided that they could do a little more to help the 911 push out a little more kick. When they were done with it, they ended up increasing the horse power from 450 to 910 for this carbriolet version. And if that doesnt amaze you much, the car produces 910 Nm of torque!

Engine:

Reserved for the cabrio version is a more powerful version of the same engine which they have put in the non cabrio car, which develops 910hp and 910Nm of torque. To achieve this level of performance, engineers took the standard 3.6L biturbo motor from the regular 911 Turbo and added their own custom turbochargers, a sports air-filter, larger injectors, modified cylinder heads and a stainless steel exhaust system with special manifolds as well as high-performance catalysts, and finally, an extensive increase in engine displacement to the tune of 4.0L. To make sure everything is in check, all the modifications are controlled by means of a reprogrammed ECU.

Performane:

With this level of output, it takes just 3.1 seconds to reach 100km/h from rest all the way to a top speed of 392km/h thanks to the dual-clutch gearbox specifically designed for it.Externally, the cars get a modified racing front grill for improved airflow, a boot lid made of carbon, a custom aero package, 20in wheels and a more powerful braking system. The carbon boot lid and other weight cuts puts the whole car weight at 1300 kg! Styling:

The styling of the 612 Scaglietti has proven to be controversial at best. The totally hot and very much awaited Honda Civic Type R is here ! And not only does it look promising it really is that. It has hit the UK markets since march 2007. The car not only looks great and unique but also handles really well, which infact is the concept of making this small hatch back. And it performs really well too with its 2.0 litre engine it delievers nearly 200 brake horse power.

Looks:

You must extremely appreciate the amount of hardwork Honda has put into this small but able car. The interior and extrior both look remarkable. With the 18 inch spoke alloy wheels and the sparkling lights and dash this car really looks apart!

Engine and Performance:

The new Civic Type R is powered by the traditional idea of a great engine in a small car theory, high-revving 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine but the unit has been significantly fiddled with to improve responsiveness using a new balancer shaft and drive-by-wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the engine structure.

The car does 0-62 mph in an astonishing 6.4 secs and it will go on upto a top speed of 146 mph! Which is not at all bad for the kind of car this is. It comes with ABS breaks to give it the sporty edge when breaking and these discs are ventilated to improve performance. Under domestic use the car will give you a mileage of almost 13 mpg.

Bugati Veyron is currently the world fastest production car ever to be made. It is also the most expensive and most powerful street legal car. The car has a proven top speed of more than 400km/hr or 250 mph. It reached formal production in sept 2005 and was made by a sub company of volkswagon, Bugatti Automobiles. It has been named after a french Leeman race car drive who used to race for bugatti firm in the late 1930. It is one of the only supercar to have a 16 cylinder engine!

Performance:

Veyron produces more than a 1000 horse power and that is the highest ever in a road legal car. The car has a tested top speed of 407.5 km/h or 253.2 mph. It was tested on the volkswagon test track in west germany by the top gear presentor James May. Incredibly he stated that at the top speed the tyres of the car only last for 15 minutes but the fuel runs out in 12 minutes!

The veyron reaches 62mph(100km/h) in under 3 secs infact 2.46 secs as stated by the manufacture. It will go on to 200 km/h in 7.3 secs and 300 km/h in 16.7 secs! At top speed the car consumes fuel at the rate of 2.1 mpg. Under normal usage the car does around 10 mpg.

Engine:

The veyron features a 16 cylinder 8 litre engine! Which may be thought of two V8 engines merged together in the form of W, thats one the reasons its called a 16W engine. The car has a total of 64 valves equalling 4 for each cylinder. The massive number of cylinders has to be driven by 4 camshafts. And thats not all that gives the car 1000+ horsepower, it also has 4 turbo chargers which make the immense horsepower possible!

Trivia:

According to Jeremy Clarkson, the host of Top Gear, if the McLaren F1 were allowed to reach 120 mph before the Bugatti started, the Bugatti would still be the first to reach 200 mph.

The latest sensation from nokia, might not be the flashing camera phone .. but it has more to promise!

On the out side .. this might look like anyother mobile phone with just a bit more of glitter on it, but its not just that, the real deal begins when you open the lid and see whats inside! A full colour laminar display with a scroll key for easy operation, and lets not forget the whole keyboard.

The Phone comes with 80mb built in memory and 128 mb MMC card already fitted, which can be extended upto 2gb. It has wireless lan, edge support, gprs connecting option and bluetooth. Its features include real player, whole computer like functionality anything you can do on your laptop you can do it on this gizmo trust me on that. And then there is the voice clarity, in my opinion i havnt had such a clear voice experience ever before! If not for the wireless lan and keyboard i'd buy this mobile just for its clear voice:)!

Well here we have it, it had been in the news and now it’s been officially confirmed, the high capacity ps3 we were looking for and had eyes on is finally out, but guess what in South Korea only! We thought that Japan or USA would be the first markets it hits but no Sony corporation have chosen South Korea.

But nothing to be ashamed of .. the 80 gigger is hitting European and USA’s markets pretty soon, just a couple of months :)

For starters .. let me start by introducing to you a very nice 4x4 i came across the other day!

The hyundai terracan

Engine:

The jeep comes with three engine options, 2.5 litre turbo diesel(TCi), 2.9 litre intercooled tubo common rail diesel(CRDi), and a 3.5 litre petrol V6. Of all the engines, the 2.9 diesel is the most impressive to check out, it'll give you great mileage plus great power!

Interior and Exterior :

I happened to visit a hyundai dealer in Islamabad, Pakistan. If you are interested it is in I 10/3. After throughly going through the jeep i thought it was rather appealling. The jeep is a bold inciating step take by hyundai, with its awesome power, the exterior and interior also is promising, although some people might find it very unappealing but most people have appreciated the leap by hyundai.

Safety:

The jeep comes with dual air bags in the front, and is equiped with ABS and EPD, both tailored to increase its efficiency in braking as the car can accomoted rather heavy stuff in its back. And lets not forget .. it is a 7 seater!

Performance:

The jeep gives to very good response to when you push the pedal !And the 2.9 diesel version i drove gives you good handling, and good mileage infact 13 km per litre. It'll go on to do 60 miles in 12 secs and will go upto a top speed of 104 miles

Transmission:

The jeep comes with 5 speed manual transmission ... or 4 speed automatic version.. being the heavy car it is.. i prefer and recommend to you the automatic version!
